What is it about?
This is a public consultation hosted by Greater Cambridge planning authority (ie SCDC & Cambridge City Councils) for your views on the local plan being developed which covers our area (Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire District council area). It’s your chance to make your views heard on future development for the South Cambridgeshire area.
The Consultation Statement outlines how Greater Cambridge council is consulting with you, and how comments are dealt with.
The Plan has been updated, taking on board comments made at the last consultation. In summary:
The Development Strategy remains the same with 73,300 additional jobs and 48,096 new homes proposed. Focus is on growth within urban areas and new settlements. Green belt remains largely unchanged. Main expansion nearby is Cambourne North- with proposed new East West rail station and identified new blue/green infrastructure and accessible transport connections. There is a new approach to protected open space for consideration.

The four tests of soundness, set out in the National Planning Policy Framework, require the Local Plan to be:
- Positively prepared – Providing a strategy which, as a minimum, seeks to meet the area’s objectively assessed needs and is informed by agreements with other authorities, so that unmet need from neighbouring areas is accommodated where it is practical to do so and is consistent with achieving sustainable development.
- Justified – An appropriate strategy, taking into account the reasonable alternatives, and is based on proportionate evidence.
- Effective – Deliverable over the plan period and is based on effective joint working on cross-boundary strategic matters that have been dealt with rather than deferred, as evidenced by the statement of common ground.
- Consistent with national policy – Enabling the delivery of sustainable development in accordance with the policies in this Framework and other statements of national planning policy, where relevant.
Comments are invited via the online webform, alternatively comments can be made by email or letter.
Remember we have the Gamlingay neighbourhood plan (link is here) https://www.greatercambridgeplanning.org/local-and-neighbourhood-planning/neighbourhood-plans/south-cambridgeshire-neighbourhood-plans/gamlingay-neighbourhood-plan
which helps to guide and shape development in our parish, and this is still in place and protecting our village.
